Fondo Negro Peruvian Garment Gourd

This gourd was carved using the Fondo negro technique and features images of some of the native garments of Cochas, Peru. This piece was carved by Noemi Osores, daughter of Pedro Osores.

Tagua, also known as vegetable ivory, is the nut of a palm, harvested in the rainforests of Ecuador. Its use helps provide an alternative to deforestation. Each piece is individually handcut and sanded by a group of artisans living on the coast of Ecuador
